Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Why Tampa Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning
Kindling Chimney Tampa provides Duraflex in Tampa with independent chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair service throughout Tampa, FL, working on DuraFlex Pro, DuraFlex SW, and 304-series flexible liners in masonry fireplaces, prefab units, and wood stove conversions. We’re not a DuraFlex dealer or authorized warranty center, but we service and rebuild these liners every week, and we know how Tampa’s humidity, salt air, and long idle seasons actually affect them. If you have a DuraFlex liner and want a straight answer about what’s inside it, call Danny Cortes and our crew at (850) 290-0897.
Why Trust Kindling Chimney Tampa for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?
Our team has serviced and rebuilt hundreds of Tampa Bay chimney systems running Chimney Sweep and DuraFlex liners, from the Pro liner in masonry chimneys to the Flex reline kits used in prefab and wood-stove conversions. That gives us hands-on familiarity with their fitment, clearances, and failure points. Danny Cortes learned flue construction and exhaust safety through the vocational programs at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before ever putting a brush in a chimney, and he’s been doing this work for going on nineteen years. For the last several of those, he and his crew have served Tampa homeowners, from quiet bungalows in Seminole Heights to older properties near Ybor City. When we open a DuraFlex liner, we know what we’re looking at, and we’ll walk you through exactly what we found before we write a single line on an invoice. We use OEM DuraFlex connectors, tees, and terminations when available because aftermarket adapters alter the critical annular clearances and the UL listing. That matters for warranty and safety alike.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Tampa
- Pinhole corrosion at seam welds on 304-series liners. High-efficiency gas appliances produce acidic condensate that sits in the liner. In Tampa’s humidity, that condensate doesn’t dry out the way it would in a drier climate. Over several years, the acid eats through the thinner weld seams first, leaving pinholes that let exhaust gas into the chimney chase. We see this on older DuraFlex 304 alloy flexible liners more than any other failure.
- Ovalization and kinking from over-bending during installation. The flexible corrugations on DuraFlex liners are designed to flex, but when an installer bends them past their radius, the liner flattens into an oval. That creates ridges where creosote collects and restricts draft. We find this often in Tampa homes where a liner was routed through an offset flue without the proper elbows.
- Water intrusion at the rain cap or flue collar connection. Improper termination at the flue collar or rain cap lets water run down the outside of the liner. That causes rust staining on the exterior and, over time, weakens the connection between liner and cap. In South Tampa’s bungalow belt, many original brick chimneys have no rain caps at all, so every summer brings calls about soggy fireboxes and nesting squirrels. We keep extra caps on the truck for exactly this reason.
- Delamination at the connector to the appliance or fireplace flue. When the wrong adapter or sealant was used during installation, the liner separates from the connector over time. Exhaust gases leak into the home instead of going up the flue. This is a safety issue we address immediately, not a cosmetic problem.
- Creosote hardening during long idle seasons. Tampa’s mild winters mean chimneys sit unused for months. Creosote that would burn off with regular use in colder climates instead hardens into a glaze that normal brushing won’t remove. We use rotary cleaning tools and, when needed, a chemical treatment designed for glazed creosote, then we inspect with a camera to confirm the liner is clear.
DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
We prefer OEM DuraFlex connectors, tees, and terminations when they’re available. Aftermarket adapters change the annular clearances the liner was listed for, and that affects both draft and safety. But we’re honest about where OEM matters and where it doesn’t. Caps, mortar, and flashing are areas where a quality aftermarket part can serve just as well. The bigger question is repair versus replace, and in coastal Tampa’s salt air, a corroded thin-wall liner should usually be replaced rather than patched. Patching a rusted-through liner is a short-term fix that fails again. A sound liner with a bad cap or cracked crown, though, can usually be repaired without pulling the liner. Danny’s rule is simple: nobody pays for work they don’t understand, and nobody replaces a liner that still has years of safe service in it. Call (850) 290-0897 and we’ll put a camera in your flue and show you exactly what we’re seeing.
Our DuraFlex Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We run a camera through the entire DuraFlex liner, from the appliance connector to the termination cap. We’re looking for corrosion at the seam welds, ovalization in the corrugations, separation at the connectors, and creosote stage. You get to see the photos.
- 2
Written price. Before any work starts, we give you a written price. Not an estimate range, not a ballpark. The number on the paper is the number you pay. No on-the-spot pressure, no surprises at the door.
- 3
Repair or cleaning. For cleaning, we use brushes sized to the liner’s diameter and rotary tools for glazed creosote. For repairs, we pull only what needs pulling. If it’s a bad connector or top plate, we replace those. If the liner itself is corroded through, we tell you plainly and show you the camera footage.
- 4
Test. After any repair or install, we test the draft with a smoke or incense stick and check for leaks at every connection point. At a 1960s ranch off South Westshore Boulevard, our tech found a DuraFlex Pro liner that had started to separate from the top plate after a corroded connector rusted through, letting smoke back into the flue chase. We pulled the damaged connector, replaced the top plate and rain cap with OEM DuraFlex parts, and resealed the mortar crown before testing. The homeowner’s draft improved noticeably and the sulfur smell disappeared.
- 5
Clean-up and photo. Shoe covers and drop cloths go down on arrival, nothing is moved without asking, and we take a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. That’s the Cedarwell Care Promise on every visit. If it’s not done right, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we make it right.

AfterDuraFlex Products We Service & Install in Tampa
We work on the full range of DuraFlex liners found in Tampa homes: the DuraFlex Pro in 316L alloy and AL29-4C for high-efficiency gas appliances, the DuraFlex SW smooth-wall flexible liner, the 304 alloy flexible liner for standard wood-burning applications, and the stainless steel reline kits used in wood stoves and inserts. We keep common OEM connectors, tees, terminations, and rain caps in local stock for faster turnaround. We also handle creosote removal, Level 2 inspections, cap replacement, and chimney waterproofing on DuraFlex systems. If your liner’s alloy or series isn’t marked, we can usually identify it by the corrugation pattern and connector style.
We Also Service These Brands
DuraFlex is a liner we know deeply, but it’s not the only one. We service and install HeatShield resurfacing systems and Gelco liners as well, plus components from Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield. If you’re not sure what brand your liner is, we’ll tell you during the inspection.
FAQs – DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Service in Tampa
No. We are an independent DuraFlex service provider in Tampa. We’re not a factory-authorized warranty center or dealer. What we are is a crew that has serviced and rebuilt hundreds of DuraFlex liners, and we use OEM parts where it matters for fit and safety. If your liner is under manufacturer warranty, we’ll help you understand what is and isn’t covered before any work begins.
Yes, for connectors, tees, and terminations, we use OEM DuraFlex parts when they’re available. Aftermarket adapters change the listed annular clearances, which can affect draft and void a warranty. For caps, mortar, and flashing, we’ll use quality aftermarket parts where they perform just as well. We’ll always tell you which is which and why.
A standard DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning in St. Petersburg, FL takes about an hour to ninety minutes, start to finish. If we’re doing a Level 2 inspection with camera work, expect closer to two hours. Repairs depend on what we find, but we’ll give you a written time and price before any work starts. Call (850) 290-0897 to book a time that works.
We service the DuraFlex Pro in 316L alloy and AL29-4C, the DuraFlex SW smooth-wall liner, the 304 alloy flexible liner, and stainless steel reline kits for wood stoves and inserts. If you have an older DuraFlex liner without clear markings, we can usually identify it by the corrugation pattern and connector style during the inspection.
Not if it’s done right. Using non-OEM adapters or sealants that alter clearance is what typically voids a liner warranty. We use OEM connectors, tees, and terminations specifically to keep your warranty intact. Cleaning with brushes sized to the liner’s diameter won’t void a warranty either. We’ll document everything with photos so you have a record.
Most standard Tarpon Springs Duraflex service and cleanings in Tampa run between $200 and $350, depending on the liner’s condition, length, and creosote stage. If we’re adding a Level 2 camera inspection, that’s typically another $150 to $250. A full liner replacement is a different conversation, and we’ll always show you the camera footage before recommending it. Call (850) 290-0897 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
No. White streaks on the outside of a stainless liner are almost always mineral deposits from water intrusion, not creosote. In Tampa’s summer storms, water gets past a failing rain cap or cracked crown and runs down the liner’s exterior, leaving calcium and salt residue as it evaporates. The fix is usually a cap or crown repair, not a liner replacement, but we’d want to camera the inside to confirm the water hasn’t caused corrosion at the seams.
Yes, the DuraFlex Pro in 316L alloy is listed for wood-burning applications as well as gas, and 316L holds up better in humid, salt-adjacent environments than 304. The bigger issue in Tampa is not the liner material but the idle season. Moist air sits in the flue for months, so annual inspection and cleaning matter more here than in colder climates where the fireplace runs all winter.
Crackling or ticking sounds during heat-up usually come from thermal expansion of the stainless steel corrugations against the masonry or supports. It’s common and generally harmless on flexible liners. But if the sound is accompanied by a metallic popping or if you smell exhaust, that can point to a connection that’s pulling loose. We’d rather check it than guess. Call (850) 290-0897 and we’ll put a camera in and listen with you.
Maybe, and that’s the honest answer. If the rust is contained to the cap and the liner’s top connections are sound, a new cap solves it. But in Tampa’s salt air, rust at the cap often means the liner’s top plate or the connector below it is also corroding. We’ll inspect the full termination before we quote, so you’re not paying for a cap when you also need a top plate.
Yes. DuraFlex liners in factory-built fireplaces are designed to be serviced from the top down through the existing flue opening, or through the cleanout if one is present. We don’t need to pull the fireplace out of the wall. We use brushes sized to the factory-built flue’s diameter and camera from the top to verify the liner is clean and intact.
